Classical Painting Techniques
Focus on traditional oil painting techniques that are rarely taught but incredibly useful for painters of all styles. Experiment with underpainting and grisaille techniques, as well as alla prima exercises to improve your understanding of composition, value, and color. The goal will be to explore the rich variety of painting approaches and methods used since the Renaissance. All levels are welcome.

Mastering Art: Painting & Drawing with Maurizio Pellegrin
Students can choose to focus on painting, drawing, or both, using any desired technique, medium, or subject matter. This unique class, led by Maurizio Pellegrin, Executive Director of the New York School of the Arts and an acclaimed international artist, offers an extraordinary opportunity to refine your artistic vision under expert guidance. Maurizio will work closely with each participant, providing personalized support to organize your methodology, shape your compositions, and develop a conceptual framework adaptable to future projects. Open to all skill levels, this class encourages participants to bring their own materials and creative energy. Maurizio’s mentorship ensures a supportive and inspiring environment where you’ll gain both technical skills and conceptual insights to elevate your artistic practice.

The Figure in Space
In this course, students will explore the expressive possibilities of the figure in space.
Working in a medium of their choosing, students will be encouraged to develop their own voice and delve deeply into their artistic practice.
The course is built around individual students interest, skill levels, and sensibilities. Students will work from the live model and their own reference materials.
There will be demonstrations as well as frequent and rigorous individual critiques.
All levels of experience are welcome.

Creating Portraits
This class will teach students the techniques of drawing and painting a portrait. Working with a live model, we will learn the structure of the human head and facial features.
The class will explore step by step: under drawing, anatomy, grisaille, paint application, proportions, knife painting, mixing flesh tones and working on value scales.
Emphasis will be placed on the importance of mark making and finding your own personal style in painting and drawing the portrait.
Open to all levels.

Contemporary Figure Painting
Learn to create unique and personal paintings while working from a live model. This class engages students in a studio practice that explores the technical and theoretical creation of works of art. There will be a mixed focus on portraiture and nude figure painting throughout the semester.
Students will be encouraged to utilize composition, color, representational space, historical reference, and context to develop their own visual language in their work. Classes will include slideshow presentations and individual instruction at the easel, exploring the many faces of figure painting in the current art world. Lectures and demonstrations will cover the stages of developing a painting, comparative measuring, proportion, and composition, as well as contemporary application.
Open to all levels.

Portait Painting
In this class, we will develop rendering skills to depict the human head and figure, caricature and expression, and the ability to elaborate, expand, and fictionalize sitters. The workshop will introduce practical information about the fundamentals of painting: shape, tone, edge, composition, color, line perspective, and substance. Through slide presentations, discussions, work periods, group and individual critiques, we will develop the ability to describe the visual world in multiple modes.
This workshop is tailored to the individual regarding materials and personal sensibilities: students are encouraged to make work in whatever style they choose.
Open to all levels.
