Our Courses

Turn You Drawing into a Papier-Mâché Sculpture

This class is designed for students who want to move from 2D form into 3D while maintaining the expressive possibilities of the paper surface. Using papier-mâché constructed with newspaper as the primary material, students will learn how to build three-dimensional forms that serve as a base for drawing or painting with water-based media.

The course will guide students through the process of constructing forms, covering surfaces with acrylic paint and developing drawings directly on sculptural structures. Materials will include newspaper, chicken wire (when structural support is needed), acrylic gesso, and pencils.

Through this process, students will explore the integration of drawing and sculpture, focusing on both form and surface rendering to create works that move fluidly between 2D and 3D, whether figurative or abstract.

Mixed Media Stories

This class will explore creating collages that visually represent personal memories and dreams. Students will have the opportunity to delve into their own experiences to create unique pieces of artwork that reflect their individuality and creativity while exploring various techniques for creating collages, including layering, blending, and exploring found materials such as old photographs, magazine clippings, and fabric scraps.

We will begin by reflecting on our specific memories and dreams; then, students can journal and sketch thoughts, themes, and ideas, using them as inspiration for different pieces. Throughout the course, we will discuss the principles of composition, color theory, and texture and how these can create cohesive and visually captivating collages. Students are encouraged to experiment with different techniques and styles while receiving personalized feedback and guidance from the instructor.
