Exploratory Watercolor

This course will explore watercolor techniques focusing on still life and various resource materials. Emphasis will be on composition, color, and issues related to the medium and will introduce students to exploring abstraction and diverse methods of using watercolor. This course is for those looking to move away from observation to create more individual paintings. Students will receive individual attention and instruction, as well as group critiques at the end of each class.

There will be a brief demonstration for those who are unfamiliar with the medium.

Painting and Drawing with Mixed Media Online

Experiment with a variety of mediums in combination with various types of surfaces. Students can use Graphite, Gouache, Watercolor, Oil paint, and Colored Pencils in this class. The surface directly influences mark making whether your style is traditional or contemporary. Many different artists used mixed media such as Degas, Romare Bearden, Jasper John, Jim Dine, and Rauschenberg just to name a few. The combinations are endless, but the basic idea is to combine and layer materials to create unique works.

Students will work closely with the instructor through zoom, email and FaceTime.

Drawing from Photographs Online

This online course introduces students to the foundational skills of drawing using photographs as references. Through a series of guided exercises and hands-on projects, students will develop their observational skills to translate images into drawings. The course covers essential elements such as line, shape, and value, and includes techniques to build both confidence and fluency on the page. Preferably charcoal or graphite, no color.
