Dierckx was born in 1971 in Antwerp, Ben Dierckx is a Belgian artist. After attending the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown, he studied Cultural Science and Philosophy of Art at the Free University of Brussels, and graduated at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) in Flanders in 2002. He subsequently migrated to Madrid, Spain, where he developed his practice in electronic arts. Here he produces a series of interactive installations in which he explores the idea of interdependency and consciousness of perception. In 2006 he won the Caja Madrid “Generación” prize. In 2007 Dierckx moved to New York City, where he has been resident at the International Studio and Curatorial Program in Brooklyn in 2009 and Flux Factory in Queens in 2010. Ben Dierckx has exhibited in Belgium, Spain, Hungary, Mexico and the USA. He has curated shows in Mexico City, NYC and Taipei where he actively participates in the cultural dialog.
In this workshop, you will learn the 3D sculpting techniques in ZBrush, a software program designed by and specifically for artists. ZBrush specializes in free form, the organic process of sculpting, as opposed to a more industrial approach. A wide array of sculpting tools and processes are available for intuitive modeling.
We will experience the fundamentals of modeling with specific tools and learn about the possibilities in digital space. These new ways of creating forms will provide you a sense of freedom and playfulness using ZBrush and will allow you to improvise once you have mastered the techniques.
You will learn: The ZBrush interface, Brushes and strokes, Masking, Subdivision and dynamesh, Materials and colors, Preparation for 3D printing.

In this course, you will learn how to do a realistic human head from start to finish, exploring the anatomy of the face in-depth, proportions, features, and expressions. You’ll learn the principles of building armatures and handling clay. All work in clay from the life model. All levels of experience are welcomed.
10am - 4pm
Learn the basic traditional technique of terracotta sculpture, including clay-work skills, modeling, and handling the process of the clay from wet to dry then baked in a kiln. Through demonstration and individual instruction, you will learn to make a complete sculpture in terracotta. Sculpture in a variety of styles will be encouraged. Open to all levels.
